Carrie Burns Brown,NWS
Carrie Burns Brown, NWS, from Greenville, South Carolina is an Experimental Watermedia Artist and National Juror. She is also a noted instructor, having amassed 40 years of teaching experience throughout the United States and Canada.
A native of Georgia, Carrie initially studied art at Mercer University and the Art Institute of Atlanta. She continued her art education at Furman University in Greenville. In the 1970’s, with a renewed interest in watercolor, Carrie sought out the famous Rangemark program in Maine. As her interest in this unpredictable medium grew, she studied more intently, often traveling throughout the U.S. for the opportunity to work with noted artists.
Carrie has been an instructor at the Greenville Museum Center for Education since 1977. She is also a returning instructor at the Springmaid Watermedia Workshops, where she has taught since 1985. Her workshops, demo-lectures, and jurying skills keep her in high demand, routinely taking her across the U.S. and Canada.
Her innovative ways and colorful works have prompted inclusion of her paintings in many publications, including:
Collage Techniques: A Guide for Artists and Illustrators, by Gerald Brommer, Celebrate Your Creative Self, by Mary Todd
Beam, Creative Watercolor: Step-by-Step Guide, by Mary Ann Beckwith, Best of Watercolor: Painting Texture, by Mary
Ann Beckwith, Watercolor Magic Magazine (1998), Watercolor Magazine (2002) and Watermedia Collage DVD, by Carrie
Burns Brown, Creative Catalyst Production, Inc.
Kathleen Conover,NWS
Kathleen Conover’s watercolor, mixed watermedia and collage workshops are a very creative and informative experience for serious artists. The main emphasis is design and composition: that evasive element that elevates painting from ordinary to awardwinning. Demonstrations, lectures, handouts, directed exercises and individual attention will enable each participant to understand and apply the new information in their artwork.
Workshop students are encouraged to explore their own personal direction in realism, abstraction or non-objective forms. Focus will be placed on each artist’s unique expression and the identification of personal imagery.
Both the Carrie Burns Brown and Kathleen Conover 4 day workshops will run from Monday, September 20 through Thursday, September 23, 2010. The cost is $345 for FWS Members and$395 for Non-Members.
