Congratulations to the Florida Watercolor Society for the 50th Anniversary and to all the selected artists in the Exhibition. Chosen from among hundreds of entries, all the paintings in the following pages deserve a special recognition. I am deeply honored to be a juror in such an important milestone year for you and delighted to present a very strong show. I also find this show unique in that there were a lot of artists who responded, directly or indirectly, to what Florida as an environment has to offer, and they transformed its influence into many forms of creative expression and spirit. I couldn’t help noticing that Florida must be an exceptionally inspiring place to the artists.
I based my judging decisions on the following: composition, overall design, technical proficiency, originality, and content. I especially took notice of how effectively artists developed the visual language to communicate their intended narrative to choose award winners.
The result is a beautiful exhibition of watermedia with a wide range of subject matters, concepts, and styles. Last but not least, I would like to thank Diane Lary, President of the FWS and Robin Lee Makowski, FWS Digital Director, for their assistance to make the jurying process smooth and pleasant.
