Convention Workshop Preview

Kathy Durdin

During this demo, you will experience Kathy’s use of bold color, direct painting, and creative composition as reflected in her award-winning work. She also will demonstrate how various papers affect your painting. This is a great opportunity for previewing her 2-day September 27-28 FWS Convention Workshop series. Her workshop will focus on loose, expressive portrait painting while exploring dynamic composition tools and techniques.

Fealing Lin

Fealing’s paintings of portraits and figures have won many awards and have been featured in publications worldwide. In this demonstration, she will share some of the techniques and methods featured in the upcoming FWS August 24-26 online workshop. The workshop explores how to create portraits with a sense of impressionism and semi-abstraction. Fealing is our judge and jury for our 2024 Non-Signature Online Show.

Andy Evansen

Andy’s beautiful landscapes have won many accolades and awards. Learn his secrets of loosening up by simplifying subject matter, doing value studies the easy way, and “finding” those lost edges. Andy will show you how to edit out the non-essential whether working from photo reference or painting on location. Andy is our judge and jury for our 2023 Annual Exhibition.

How to Simplify and Accelerate your Painting

Donna Morrison

Having a variety of approaches when deciding how to execute a painting keeps my watercolor world more fun and inventive. This demonstration will show how using fine, permanent archival black markers on aquaboard allows for a faster, bolder and looser approach, resulting in a finished product that is also easy to frame outside of traditional glass and mat. Always keep in mind that not all open shows allow for a wide variety of techniques, so always read your prospectus!!!
